Each Barefoot toy is made by hand, beautifully and simply. They are made from 100% cotton hand-woven cloth and filled with kapok. All materials including dyes are safe and eco-friendly. The craft skills at Barefoot are timeless. Nothing is mass-produced.
The company first began in 1962 in Sri Lanka with colourist, artist, designer and entrepreneur Barbara Sansoni. Barefoot works almost exclusively with women who work in small rural workshops. Weaving centres across the island provide valuable employment to rural women, who have elevated their economic status by mastering weaving techniques. As each item is hand made by one person, your product is unlikely to be the same as any other; so we photograph most of the goods individually for the website. Therefore, if you see the specific combination of colours you want, don't hesitate to order immediately because when it's gone, it's gone!
Barefoot toys carry the European Safety Certificate or CE label.
